I don't "let the whole idea evolve" by itselves : I did many trys for each idea before to find a satisfying rythm, and even until it works.
I don't try to be recognized as an original creator doing this : as I said, I honnestly love minimalism and to play with the media I use.
(I do the same in other domains)
I didn'd copy anyone : I began this work 15 years ago (and worked on over than 150 ideas) ! and then I didn't know any exemple of play with comics panel. I discoverd them later but I never inspire myself from any existing exemple. I rediscover some would you probably say...
I agree with you about criticism !

I think folks who do that are trying to take advantage of the little background knowledge that some people have on comics. They will go: "Oh, this is so original! He is letting the character interact with the panel!" ... that is what MIGHT upset me about it.
Take Will Eisner, the comic-godfather ... his play with panel shapes, sizes and textures was ingenious! Yours I just don't fancy at all - that alone would be totally ok - but I suspect you are a copy-cat.
Finally, that's my opinion and I don't mean to make you angry, but I would rather ask these questions on originality. Also, the fact that I don't like it is very normal (I got people who can't stand my stuff, too). Criticism is what we have to live with (and maybe learn from).

You aren't the first one who react to Bonom as you did (some others, even very involved in the comic's field, do realy like it). Then I allways asked to give me exemples of this kind of work. I allready knew a lot of them, like Gotlieb, Fmur, Fred, ... windsor mac kay ! But those comic's artists, that I really appreciate, don't play with the panels as a mean purpose. It is much more peripheral. Anyway, I'd be glad you indicate me the art works you are thinking about.
You even seem to be upset ! Are you upset by all the cartoons, storys or graphic styles (some we can see on this website for instance), that are obviously NOT original ? Bonom might affect you in a very specific way ! I'm honoured !
Bonom tends to explore panels gags in the most minimalist way it is possible (or I can), and through many ways and variations.
But it's also and maybe mostly a research on time an space, in other words rythm.
The style is clean to make it more readable. The character is round for to contrast whith the panel's squares. He has a big nose because it's an archetype of european classical character. Mainly, all the design trys to disappear behind the idea and the rythm of the gag.
@Leichnam and Made : ich verstehe doch etwas Deutch, aber English ist besser für mich (oder Fransoze !), danke sehr !

Maby this work is a homage to these old panel gags - or Bonom is simply younger than 50 years. Who knows?
Bonom knows!
@Bonom: Maby you should write something about your motivation to draw this series. As I know from your homepage you declined this theme in over 30(!) pages
@leichnam: Write in english please!
